How confidential is counselling?
Very! You will receive a written outline of my Confidentiality procedure, no one will know that you are having counselling or psychotherapy. In clinical supervision, your name will not be given or any details that would identify you. This is paramount to you being able to feel safe in what you say.
How does counselling and psychotherapy work?
It is surprising how having a neutral person to talk to can make all the difference. I aim to provide an atmosphere of safety, non-direction and without judgement, the foundation of my work. I may also help you make links to events or experiences from the past which may be influence your thoughts, feelings and behaviour in the present so that you can better understand how you react or cope with certain events. This can help hugely in making new and more appropriate choices both in your everyday life and with big decisions. I will not give you advice, or tell you what to do, as these ideas may only be suited to me. What I aim to do is help you to see things from a different perspective, understand yourself better and make choices that are helpful to you.
How Many sessions will I need?
This is probably the question I am asked the most, and the honest answer is that no one client is alike, and so estimating how many sessions are needed is almost impossible. However, should you decide to continue, there will be plenty pf opportunity to review our progress. You are not tied in to the sessions, and I encourage people to be honest about their experience of the sessions. The sessions are for you and if you think you are not getting what you want from them, then it is fine to talk about that with me.
